I have a story to tell you about the day that I gave birth to our baby daughter, Sienna Lucy Stedman. It’s not about being in labor for what seemed like three days. It’s not about the epidural wearing off and the horrible pains that emerged right before Sienna came into this world. It’s about remembering an important vow to myself.
I had to pinch myself in the middle of the night at the hospital… it felt like Christmas only this was so much bigger. There she was in her own tiny little crib next to my hospital bed. My baby girl! I was so excited that I got out of the bed, my legs still wobbly and numb from the epidural, to get her and bring her into my bed. I just wanted to be next to her, hear her breathe, and make sure this was all real.
What can you do for 1 minute?
- Breathe in for 5 seconds
breathe out for 10 seconds - Think of the most beautiful
scenery you’ve experienced - Laugh at a joke
- Say a few affirmations
- Use the 1 Minute Ritual To Radiant Skin
- Stretch your neck or back
“I was about to leave the hospital when I remembered my vow: to take care of myself so that I could best take care of my daughter.”
I couldn’t wait to get home so we could introduce Sienna to our world. My instinct was to take care of her in every way possible, and I was completely consumed by her every cry and need. I could feel the shift of my world going from my husband and me to our baby.
I was about to leave the hospital when I remembered my vow: to take care of myself so that I could best take care of my daughter. The promise was to never lose myself and to always take even one minute to make sure I was looking after my needs as well.
After all, my company had created the 1 Minute Ritual to Radiant Skin so that it would only take one minute for busy women to take care of their skin, breathe in beautiful aromas, and remember to center themselves. One minute to remember their bliss and their dreams.
Even though I purposely had packed the 1 Minute set knowing my resolve and commitment, I had to force myself to reach for it in my suitcase to take that one minute. It was an important moment because by taking that minute, I was fulfilling the promise to myself. And every morning, I remember to do it. It not only reminds me to get grounded and to breathe, it reminds me to not nudge myself out of the equation and forget.
Do you have a ritual for yourself? Remember that by taking care of yourself, you have so much more to give to others.
